Dear All

It with regret that I have to inform you that the NZBSA has today advised the OBSF that they are unable to host the Oceania Championships for 2018 in Tauranga, New Zealand.

We will be looking to source an alternate venue to host the Championships and utilising the dates already set on the calendar if at all possible. It is more than likely to be in Australia, although we are consulting our other member countries to see if they wish to take on this event at such short notice.

The Open event winner will be nominated to the IBSF/ACBS Ranking events to be held in China, India and Qatar with all accommodation covered by the organisers. More details on this will be posted shortly.

The event champions for all categories Men, Women, Masters, U21 and Billiards will receive the nomination to represent Oceania at each and all IBSF Championships wherever they might be held in 2018.

WORLD SNOOKER FEDERATION UPDATE

The ABSC has been invited to join the WPBSA's World Snooker Federation. The Executive stated that they would make a decision regarding this invitation after hearing the positions put forward at the recent IBSF AGM. We were happy to hear from Jason Ferguson that the IBSF and WPBSA are in discussions, and that there could be a resolution within the coming months. The ABSC & the NZBSA jointly proposed a motion at that AGM that our wish is for the two bodies to work together. This was met with acclamation.

The ABSC is committed to giving Australian players every opportunity to excel and succeed. After due consideration, the ABSC executive has resolved that the ABSC will join the WSF for 2018.

We wish to make it clear that the ABSC still fully supports the IBSF, and recognizes that the opportunities that the IBSF presents in terms of Masters, Women's, Under 21s, Coaches and Referees are an equally important aspect of our sport. The ABSC's aim is to cater for all those involved in the sport.

We look forward to hearing of further positive developments with WSF and the IBSF working together in the future.
