With such a poor response from clubs and players to participate in the current Billiards Pennant season, it begs the question, what will be the response for the Qld Open Billiards Championship, the Qld Open Masters Billiards and the Qld Billiards Minors tournaments. There is currently, and has been all year, a very full calendar of Snooker tournaments and as might be expected, this will put great pressure on the participation rate for this Billiards season, sadly to the detriment of both the Cue Sports the QB&SA is responsible for in Queensland.
.
In a year when Australia is about to host a World Billiards Tournament, the contribution from Queensland will be very poor to say the least. At the QB&SA MC, we are very concerned about this situation, it is high on our agenda to make some future choices that will restore the game of Billiards to a higher profile and participation rate for 2016. This however needs the membership to assist either through their affiliated clubs/delegates or as individual members of your state association. It is a shared responsibility and we encourage you all to make a contribution to the process we should be taking. In the past we have tried many formats, timed events in 3 grades, combined timed handicap event with all grades playing in one competition, mixed 3 billiards 1 snooker teams timed, mixed billiards and snooker with all matches 3 x 25 minute sessions for Open and Handicap grades and this year we hoped to introduce a further option, the ‘Off a Break’ knockout cup, sadly due to the lack of teams nominated, this knockout cup will not take place.
.
It is not the wish of the QB&SA MC to create an exclusive billiards season at the exclusion of the snooker players and tournaments, more a case of having the benefits of the skills that the game of billiards provides to a player, enhance the billiards profile as a sport and compliment the game and table management demands of snooker. It is no secret that many great billiards players, Walter and Horace Lindrum, Danik Lucas, Matthew Bolton, Robbie Foldvardi have more than held their own on the international snooker stage. Murt O’Donohue, a well respected billiards exponent and teacher is also accredited with the first recorded 147 snooker break, Billiards WILL enhance your snooker break building and table management.
.
And so to the remainder of this Billiards Season. Many hours negotiating a draw for those wanting to play this 2015 season have been finalised now and the draws are available with the following links. With the drawn out task of creating a Billiards season, the Masters at the Banora club and State Billiards at the Tattersals club, are the tournaments that are confirmed events, more on this to come.
