The tournament has concluded and Matthew Bolton from WA has defended his championship for a second year in succession, many congratulations on this achievement Matthew.

Well done to Aron Mahoney as the other championship finalist, being number two seed and High Break winner (with a break of 101) is testimony to your playing skills.

It a very successful tournament with 48 runners and a large interstate contingent. All 4 days were very well attended by supporters.

Mr Geoff Wright, Chairman of The Clem Jones Group, attended the final day and presented the prizes to the finalists. On behalf of the QB&SA, the ABSC, all the players referees, supporters and officials, we extend our appreciation the Clem Jones Group for their continued support of this well profiled championship, Dr Jones’ passion for the sport is well documented with his involvement and administration of the World body, the Australian Council and the Queensland Association.

Many thanks to the referees who have travelled long distances or, at their own expense, were resident on the island for the duration. Our Patron George Goold who was present each day and to his wife Sally who is well known to us all, we enjoyed your prescence. Thanks to William Kent the President of the Bribie Island Snooker Club and his members for making the tables available and ensuring we all enjoyed the venue facilities. Thanks also to the Bribie Island RSL Club and the Bribie Island Sports Club for their support, many thanks to the Sports Club staff for making us feel very welcome.

Special mention must go to the Tournament Director, Graham Baker, and Peter Williams, referee and responsible for the presentation of the venue. It takes a lot of work to create and coordinate a tournament with 48 entries and Graham did an excellent job. Peter was first at the venue each day preparing the tables and last to leave making sure the room was clean, this sort of enthusiasm is a rarity and appreciated by us all.

In closing this edition, I would like to make mention of all the ‘snooker widows’ and families both past and present who have supported their spouses participation in our great games. Your support does make a contribution and the membership of the QB&SA appreciates it greatly.

There will be a final wrap available here in due course including the Tournament Directors report and proposal for the 2017 event. In the meantime, as this was a national ranking event, go to the website for the full tournament draw with results, click on the read more link on the championship presentation photo.
