Well, we certainly had a big day of billiards at the Qld 2015 Under 15 and Under 18 Billiards Championships at the Redlands RSL, Cleveland.
A big thank you to Graham Stewart for his work as TD, his preparation and running of the day was excellent.
Hayden Longhurst, Jackson MacDonald-Hate, Lami Oyewole, Harry Mok, Hayden Goode, Jayden Dinga, Matthew King, these young men are the future of our Cue Sports in Queensland and they acquitted themselves extremely well.
It was great to see an enthusiastic group of supporters there including QB&SA Life Members Bob Turpin, Terry Stewart and John Balderson.
Refereeing duties were shared between Trevor Mortimer, Graham Stewart, Ed Dinga, Bob Turpin and John Osterman.
On behalf of the boys, a big thank you to the parents and families who support these youngsters each week.
Hayden Goode took control of the day and we often forget that he is still a 15 year old young man, developing his life and skills through his teenage years. I am not sure if it is his talent or height that are growing the quickest. Congratulations Hayden on becoming the 2015 Qld Under 15 and Under 18 Billiards Champion. Hayden had breaks of 24,32,38,48 and 50 and on a couple of occasions, scored well into the 300’s for the hour.
Jayden Dinga was runner-up in both events to Hayden and what a talent we have here as well. Look out the day when Jayden can actually play at the table with his right hanging vertically, he showed amazing cue control with long potting, run throughs and stuns. Jayden had a number of breaks in the 20’s.
The players got together to present Bob and Val Turpin with a token of their gratitude for the support they have shown to the Juniors in 2015, well done Bob and Val.
Once again, from the QB&SA and its membership,, thanks must go to the Redlands RSL for their continued support for the Redlands Snooker Club and its Junior development program.
The Junior billiards Championships will be held at Redlands RSL this Saturday 28-29th November 2015.
Under the guidance of Bob Turpin, these young cueists will challenge for the right to be their age group champion.
There are multiple State and National title holders entered here and are a credit to Bob’s undying passion for the development of our state Juniors. It is also worth noting that Bob is the National Junior development coach.
Play commences 9am Saturday and depending on the days outcome, some play on Sunday might be warranted. The club opens at 10am however, Val Turpin will be available to open the front doors until the club opens.
